Frequently Asked Questions Q. Do I need to upgrade my brakes and clutch, or fit a differential with the supercharger kit? A. Whether you need uprated brakes, clutch etc is down to your driving style and not whether you have a supercharger fitted. We have seen stock cars with worn OEM Honda clutches after 10,000 miles because they have been driven harshly, but similarly have also seen highly modified cars where the clutch is still going strong after a high mileage. A differential is not essential but would be beneficial to a stock car as well as a supercharged setup. We recommend using the Quaife as it is “fit and forget”, requires no maintenance and comes with limited lifetime warranty. Q. I have bought a second hand supercharger kit and need some spares, can you help? A. We stock spares for the Type R kits and usually have most items in stock, please email us for prices. Q. Will CPL Racing fit a second-hand kit and tune the car for me? A. Yes we will fit for you but please be aware of the risks of purchasing used parts from 3rd parties Q. What extra do I need to do to look after my car once it has been supercharged. A The only additional routine maintenance required is to check the supercharger belt for wear/slippage at the normal regular service intervals. CPL Racing stock spare belts if required. Q. Can I fit the kit myself? A. It is not possible for CPL Racing to comment on whether retail customers have the necessary skills and experience to fit parts when we have never met you or know your mechanical background. If you are in any doubt, our professional advice would be for a competent mechanic to fit the kit if you are not able to bring the car to CPL Racing’s workshop Q. I already have some uprated injectors, can you supply me a kit minus injectors? A. Kits are made up in advance rather than made to order so we are only able to supply complete kits or the odd spare component for customers who have purchased kits second-hand Q. I want to fit/arrange fitting of my supercharger kit locally but come to CPL Racing for the tuning, can you give me a base map so that I can drive to your dyno? A. We can offer a base map to customers that have purchased new kits from us and want to come to CPL Racing for tuning. The tuning price is £350 including VAT, and if a base map is provided before tuning we ask for the tuning to be paid in advance on supply of the base map. You will need to send us the ECU so that we can load the map for you. Q. How long does a supercharger conversion take in the CPL workshop? A. We need two full days to fit the supercharger and tune the car. We can usually also fit, say, a catback and/or manifold in this timeframe but if you require additional work to be carried out we would need the car for longer. Q. Why is the DC5 kit more expensive than the Civic Type R kit to both supply and fit? A. The DC5 kit contains different and additional components and also takes longer to fit Q. I drive a lot around town, is this conversion suitable and is the car still drivable in this environment? And will I still get good fuel consumption? A. Absolutely yes, this conversion is suitable for town driving, motorways and for the track. Fuel consumption will be the same as before the conversion, when not driven in boost. Below is a dyno chart of the Civic Type R 2001-2006 showing power and torque at the flywheel Please note that a standard car on our dyno makes 182 bhp at peak, so this is the baseline figure
Civic Type R FN2 – 2007 onwards In the Spring of 2007, utilising a Jackson Racing supercharger unit, CPL Racing developed the CPL Racing supercharger kit for customers with the Civic Type R FN2 models. The FN2 kit is completely different to the 2001-2006 Type R kits.
