When fitting aftermarket camshafts it is sometimes necessary to limit the amount of inlet camshaft advance due to the risk of valve to piston collision, or valve to valve collision. It is not sufficient to rely solely on the ECU to control inlet valve advance, as it is possible in some instances for the inlet camshaft to stray from the cam advance settings within the ECU. The CPL Racing VTC mechanism is the addition of a newly machined back-plate incorporating a positive mechanical stop machined within, this ensures that there is no possibility of the cam timing advancing past the desired maximum, and therefore eliminates the possibility of engine damage.
